Hello and welcome. I'm Beth Walker, primary counselor at Inner Alchemy Counseling.
I'm so glad you are here. Whether you're a considering counseling for the first time or are a seasoned veteran, kudos to you for taking the steps towards investing in your personal growth and healing. As a counselor and fellow human, I have found that deepening our awareness of who we are and the struggles we face, within a supportive, safe relationship, can help us navigate life's obstacles in ways we did not feel were otherwise possible. Often, the greatest gift of self-compassion is the act of coming home to ourselves. |
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy, and a concentration in Body-Centered Therapy from Appalachian State University.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider designation in Tennessee, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a Registered Yoga Teacher 200-Hour. Additionally, I am currently working towards a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and serve as the Coordinator for the Grief Outreach Initiative at UTK. |
I have worked in university, school-based, residential treatment, wilderness, and private practice settings.
I have specialized training in Somatic and Attachment Focused (SAFE) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for individuals and families, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Expressive Arts Therapy, Body-Centered Therapy, Nature-based Therapy/Ecotherapy, Koru Mindfulness, and am a trained mindfulness/meditation facilitator and yoga teacher. |
My therapeutic orientation is trauma, attachment, and somatic-informed, with a family systems lens. I believe in incorporating nature into therapy as a partner and fellow "co-therapist" from which we can draw inspiration and perspective. Viewing the world and therapy in this way allows us to have a greater appreciation for the world around us, finding a sense of gratitude, humility, and responsibility for our own existence and the role in which we play within the “web of life.” Seeing this larger system, we can begin to translate that to the family, school, work, and other organizational systems in our lives. With this in mind, my hope and intention within therapy is to provide a balance of challenge and support for holistic growth and healing.

I grew up exploring the backcountry areas of Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, Smoky Mountains, and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Although I'm a native of East Tennessee, I have lived in and still consider the mountains of Western North Carolina and Southwest Colorado "home." Having lived in a variety of natural settings and explored various parts of the world, I've always been fascinated with and draw inspiration from the unique landscapes, textures, elements, and perspectives of the Earth and the various cultures humans have cultivated around the world, for generations upon generations.
|
I think and see the world in images and metaphors and often bring these insights into my work. By finding and offering "new ways of seeing," I find that we are more able to step outside of our own perspectives and see things from an objective and holistic one.
As a human, I've experienced many of my own personal trials and have had to find ways to work through them. I believe in the value of "shadow work," while also learning tools and skills to support us as we "approach the light." |
Having experienced the healing abilities of spending time in nature, as well as mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and creative expression myself, I've always know that offering this to others was the ultimate path that I wanted to walk as my life’s purpose. I look forward to seeing what kind of work we can do together and hope you may uncover many treasures, within and without.
